Seasonal Shift

Last week it was still winter.  Last week we had to wear hats and sweatpants when we walked to the beach; peering up at the clouds, begging them to let us make it home before the rain hit.  Last week we lit a fire in the pot belly stove every night, taking turns rotating in and out of the seat closest to it when we got too hot.  Last week every meal we cooked was in the crock pot, except for the potatoes and the stewed apples we boiled on the pot belly itself.

This week, in just a matter of days, spring has sprung!  This week, we can walk to the beach in shorts and t-shirts.  We can jump on the trampoline, peek into the neighbors yards as they all work diligently in their gardens and look up and over their roofs to see not one cloud in sight.  This week we eat pasta salad with corn on the cob and delicious, juicy chicken cooked outside on our charcoal grill.  And when we have finished dinner and realize the coals are still hot, we can whip up an easy batch of corn bread so all of that beautiful heat doesn't get wasted.

This week we work in the garden almost everyday - searching for anything and everything that will take us out of the house and out into the sun.

Last week was whiskey on ice and mugs of hot chocolate to warm us, this week is rum and cokes and root beer floats to cool us down.  What a difference a few short days can make!  Short days...but getting longer.
