Your Hearts Plan

Once upon a time...

I had 33 pages of quotes saved to my parents desk top computer. That massive oddly-oatmeal colored machine with a separate track mouse and funny shaped keyboard that was meant to be better for your wrists. The folder was titled simply "Quotes," and I divided them all into sections, where I found them, whether they were from a movie or a song, or even saved blips of AIM conversations. And each section had its own color. I remember that I had so many quotes from Practical Magic (my favorite movie) that they had their own color - orange. And my quotes from Leslie Harpold's online short stories were bright pink (The Hoopla500 was the name of the collection, and tragically enough a few years ago when she passed away they all disappeared from the web. I have been searching for them ever since).

Collecting quotes was my original time-waster. That was before Facebook - stalking other peoples thoughts instead of their photos and status updates. That was before Google became a verb. When I had to listen to a track over and over again, replaying certain parts, to make sure I got every word in the lyrics correct. And now, live for your viewing pleasure, I'm going to reenact those old-timey days, as I attempt to capture the lyrics of a song by my new favorite band, Grouplove. You see, they only have an EP out, so googlers haven't managed to type out the lyrics yet. So I will have to do it myself.

It's called "Don't Say Oh Well," and it goes something like this:

(shrill yell)

Yeah I step out of my little country
I travelled seas and took a long look
and now I find myself
in a small town
it's so remote I couldn't choke

I kissed my Mommy
on her sweet cheeks
and I told my dad
I'm real glad that we're friends
said to my brother
I surely miss him
I'm coming back
just don't know when

ain't it enough to find the truth
the pain the gain that said oh well
don't say oh well

oh don't say oh well

I told my band mates
they are my soul mates
and i hope we can understand
that this year here
has been a big one (yeah)
we follow in what we don't plan

oh everybody

so do your god damned
sweet devotion
but will you follow
your hearts plan
Oh why not jump in to that ocean
and run your fingers through your hair

ain't it enough to find the truth
the pain the gain that said oh well
don't say oh well
don't say oh well
don't say oh well

...

Whew! That was fun! Those years of typing lessons paid off I suppose. Sweet dreams!
