All of November
Hi friends!
I just HAD to pop in and give you all an update! November has utterly and completely flown by...which makes me think that tomorrow I'm going to blink and it will be February and the whole summer will be behind us and then the day after that I'll blink again and will be holding a little baby in my arms and not in my abdomen.
Christmas down here is just so much different from every idea and dream and song about it up in the Northern Hemisphere. There are the obvious things, like the lack of snow for example. But I've realized that part of the reason that Christmas was so special growing up was that it was really the ONLY thing to look forward to in the dead of winter. There isn't anything else going on except for decorating and driving around looking at lights and spending time with your family. But down here, it's not just Christmas. It is the height of summer, and it's also referred to as the Silly Season. Which is so true! Because as soon as December gets close and the sun stays up a little longer, not only do you get to start thinking about when to put the tree up, but you also have a half dozen weddings to go to, and BBQ's and family summer vacations. The whole of December and January are just a whirlwind of cramming every summer activity right up against every Christmas one! It is, quite simply, Crazy Silly.
Which just makes me realize again that we really need to just start celebrating Christmas in July, and maybe even Thanksgiving in June (it's really hard to eat your weight in turkey and stuffing when it's 90 degrees out).
In other news, baby #1 has been starring in some recent videos being posted on Facebook, if you haven't checked those out yet. Really, they're not very exciting....but I try to include Trip doing SOMEthing in them. Toff always asks why I'm putting these really boring videos up, but apparently everyone loves them! So as long as I can continue to master the art that is my phone-video-camera, boring videos we shall have!
And baby #2 starred in his/her very own ultrasound last week. In which the overwhelming feedback was that it a) looks like a boy, and b) looks like Trip. Which is....funny. But also interesting that multiple people have come to this conclusion completely on their own without any prompting. As for me, I don't really mind! Grampy Gif "predicted" with his folk lore needle & thread experiment that we would be having two boys, and he's been right so far!
And in Shop News, we're having a birthday party this weekend! Which means it's been almost a whole frig-fraggin' YEAR since we've been open. (Just incase anyone was unsure on how the concept of a 'first birthday' went....) Technically we opened on the 18th of December, but decided to have a party earlier on because by that time all the summer tourists will be down and we'll simply be too busy already. And this way it should hopefully be mostly our regular customers get to come and have fun. We have a face painter and a lovely gentleman named Markus playing his guitar. And Mat's making a birthday cake and I'll hang balloons and Toff will give out free samples, and we bought all the staff super fun shirts to wear (which are a surprise, so you'll have to wait to see them! Heh heh heh, but in case you are wondering....you should be excited!)
We also had a photographer come down a few weeks ago to take some photos for a magazine article that should be coming out this week. It's called Adelaide Matters and is a free publication circulated to all the "affluent" suburbs. Which means....not us. Or anyone near us. So we'll have to figure out how to get our hands on one. The magazine is doing a feature on what to do when you're down south for the summer, since everyone up in the city tends to spend their summers down here by the beach (who can blame them, eh?). So it's really great that people who have probably never heard of us are going to get this magazine. And, just to put a cherry on top of this already awesome Sundae....the photographer drove down yesterday just to give me a copy of the pictures he took for the article!!! Plus some bonus ones that he took just for us of Trip enjoying the pies that were the stars of the photoshoot. How awesome is that? I can't get over how nice it was for him to do that! So I'll leave you for now, with the following images by Russell Millard:

Baby on the Inside |
My favorite part of the ultrasound was watching the little baby move. It's so awesome to see and really brings it home that there is a real, live baby in there! He or she was dancing around the whole time, which made it a little tricky for the ultrasound technician, but that's okay because she was a real grouch anyhow. I wanted to take a video to share with you, but apparently that is not allowed because it is a "medical procedure" blah blah blah and not just for glowing parents-to-be to get documentation to brag about. Pft, whatever.
Baby on the outside. Two weeks ago, because I'm really bad at weekly photo-of-myself taking & sharing. Apparently. |

Well, while we may not be silly crazy, we're still busy enough with Thanksgiving, Graduations, and Christmas.....okay, you still win, I don't think I'd want my Christmas cheer to be up against sand, sun & surf! Love the photo's, Trip is obviously enjoying the fruit of your labors, Toff looks glowing and you look.....eh, crazy silly:) But in a super happy and beautiful way. Hugs & smooches, Mama
